Gisteravond zijn in Berlijn voor de 28e keer de European Film Awards uitgereikt. Paolo Sorrentino's Youth was de grote winnaar van de avond, dankzij winst in de drie belangrijke categorieën beste film, beste regisseur en beste mannelijke hoofdrolspeler (Michael Caine).

Twee jaar geleden was Sorrentino ook al de meest succesvolle filmmaker van de EFA's met La Grande Bellezza, wat daarna ook een Oscar voor de beste niet-Engelstalige film opleverde.

Andere grote prijzen waren er voor Charlotte Rampling als beste vrouwelijke hoofdrolspeler in 45 Years, A Pigeon Sat on a Branch Reflecting on Existence als de beste komedie, Amy als de beste documentaire en Song of the Sea als de beste animatiefilm.
